BIOGRAPHY
Frederick Ricker Sr. was born in Haverstraw, New York in 1854, and married Sarah about 1878. They had six children: Frederick Jr., Alice, Ernest, William, Daisy, and Lila G. Frederick was a printer and the family lived in Haverstraw, New York, where he died before 1910. His widow Sarah continued to live in Haverstraw, although she wasn't found in a census after 1910. Frederick and Sarah's daughter Daisy never married and died in 1992 at the age of ninety-nine.

The surname was probably originally spelled Reicker or Reickert. Frederick's father was Godfrey Reickert, born about 1804 in Saxony, Germany. Godfrey probably immigrated in the 1850s as the 1860 census is the first knowledge of his residing in America. He married Barbara___, probably in Haverstraw, where he was a farm laborer in 1860. Barbara was born about 1818 in Saxony or Bavaria and died after 1870, as Godfrey was a widower in 1880. Godfrey and Barbara had only two known children: Frederick Ricker, b. June 1856, and Elizabeth Ricker, b. about 1853. In 1870 Godfrey was a gardener but in 1880 was working as a laborer in a factory at the age of 76.

Haverstraw, New York is on the west side of the Hudson River about seventy miles north of New York City.
