BIOGRAPHY
George Stritzky's first wife
Carrie Eulner was the daughter of Henry Eulner and his wife
Katherine, found in the 1880 census in Manhattan. Henry Eulner
was born about 1834 in Germany and was a police officer as early as 1869. In
the 1880 census Henry Eulner was living at 120 Lewis Street in the Bronx and
had the following children: Henry Eulner, age 30, Theodore Eulner,
age 14, Emily Eulner, age 14, Carrie Eulner, age 11, and
Lotta Eulner age 7. Also living in the same apartment house is William
Eulner who is probably also his son. Although he states all the children
were born in New York, no earlier censuses have been found for this family.
The Eulners were still living at 120 Lewis Street in 1890 as was George and
Carrie [Eulner] Strtizky.
George Stritzky moved to the Bronx from the Manhattan in the 1880s where he was
employed as a house smith.
In 1930, both George and his son Edward Stritzky were living on Alton Avenue in the
Bronx, and both listed their occupation as "iron works" in the "building"
industry.
Edward and Carrie had four children: Charlotte Stritzky born Jun 1887,
also called Lotte Stritzky,
Edward Stritzky born 21 Aug 1919,
Florence Stritzky born May 1894, and Albert Stritzky was born abt. 1908
After Carrie's death, about 1921, George married second in 1922 Elizabeth
Grey, the widow of John F. Grey / Gray. John Grey was a carpenter
and one can assume that George and John knew each other through their work.
Elizabeth married John Grey about 1897 and it appears it was the second
marriage for both of them. Elizabeth had two known children by this union:
Raymond Grey born December 1899 and Albert Grey, born about
1909. In 1930 Elizabeth's son Albert was enumerated as Albert G. Stritzky, age 22.
Either George adopted his step-son or the enumerator incorrectly wrote his
last name as Stritzky and not Grey.
