BIOGRAPHY
Hildur Beck was born in New York and would have gone to Norway with her
parents about 1898, returning sometime after the birth of her sister
Astrea in about 1902. Upon returning the family settled in Bremerton,
Washington, where undoubtedly Hildur met her first husband Rudolph
Gutowski, a private in the US Marines. They married about 1915 and
left soon after for Englewood, Illinois where their first child Mildred was
born in 1917. Within a couple of years they returned to Washington where
their second child Rollan was born about 1920. Hildur and Rudolph
divorced and she married second Albert H. Kean about 1925. Albert must
have adopted the children as Rollan's surname was changed to Kean. We
don't know if this marriage ended in divorce or because Albert died, but
in 1937 Hildur was returning from Honolulu, Hawaii, alone. The reason for
her visit to Honolulu is unknown.
Hildur married last Fred Kappes. This is verified by family
correspondence to her cousin May Greenwold, the daughter of
Henrietta Wick. Fred and Hildur lived
together until each of them died in or near Bremerton, Washington.
